Why not home? While homebirth is not for everyone, having your baby in your own home is a unique and special event. With a homebirth, you have complete control over your environment while in labor.
Homebirth has the convenience factor – there’s no traveling in labor or with a newborn. Everyone comes to you while you labor peacefully in your home. After the birth, you can have a freshly cooked meal from your own kitchen before tucking into bed with your baby. Your older children can be involved in the birth as you wish, but if it’s night and they are sleeping peacefully that’s one less thing to concern yourself with.

Home preparation for a birth is fairly simple as well. All you need is a birth kit of disposable items for your home. Your midwives will bring any remaining supplies to your birth and set everything up themselves. Since your birthing space is in your home, no special cleaning or sanitizing is necessary.
After the birth, you focus on bonding with your baby. Your midwives will handle the cleanup. Laundry can be started. Items collected and discarded as needed.
Interested in a waterbirth? That’s easy at a homebirth as well! Many modern homes already have an appropriately sized tub with enough depth to safely birth your baby in. Birth tub rental is available in the event that you need a larger or deeper tub.
So is homebirth for you? Let’s set up a time to discuss and find out. You can also read here on the safety of homebirth. For a mother’s perspective on homebirth, here is a birth story written by a mother who had her baby with midwife Kristy Hammack.
